01The brief
The insight
Lighting the whole body would have been hard, and not very beautiful.
The hard call
Years of revisions with the factory on LED placement and the unibody structure.
02What I did
What I made
- A 32mm unibody frame with large LCP blades
- Side-only, depth-based lighting
03In my words
We spent years creating the ultimate RGB fan: 32mm thick, with large LCP blades and a unibody frame. We went through countless revisions and back-and-forth with the factory over where the LEDs could physically go and how the unibody had to be built. It was clear that lighting the whole body in high-density RGB would be very difficult and also not very beautiful. Instead we started playing with depth and lit only the sides. That let us hide the electronics more easily and gave us less surface to light, so we could light it perfectly. The ID of these fans is one of the most perfect I've ever worked on.
